Our Board

Jessica Mahon is an experienced nonprofit professional that has demonstrated success in fostering productive, cohesive team environments and achieving positive outcomes through quality program delivery. Her diverse skill set includes public speaking, strategic planning, program development, volunteer management, conflict resolution, advocacy, youth development, and community outreach. Jessica holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Gender Studies from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Social Work Degree with a focus on Policy, Administration and Community Practice from Arizona State University. She currently serves at the Program Director for Workforce Development and Weatherization at Community Services Agency and has been involved with the Human Services Network since 2015.

Shayla is the Director of Lyon County Human Services. She is committed to ensuring families have access to critical services in Lyon County and throughout Northern and Rural Nevada.

Shane Piccinini is the public policy advocate for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. He has extensive government and policy experience and understands the real world effects that come from positive and negative public policies.  Shane is a passionate advocate for social change in communities served by the Food Bank.

Stacey Shinn serves as the Nevada State Director for SiX. Prior to SiX, Stacey spent eight years as a lobbyist in Carson City working to advance social, environmental, and economic justice policies. Stacey also worked as a counselor in the mental health arena and taught English abroad. She has served HSN for over 10 years and served two years as President.

Marika Baren is a Client Services Associate at SEI. Marika has worked as the executive director of the Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada, and prior to that at CARE Chest of Sierra Nevada. In these roles, she researched and implemented practices to improve governance and team management and developed new programming. In her time with HSN, she has been instrumental in creating a new strategic plan and helped design an organizational budget.

Nicole is a Health Educator Coordinator at Northern Nevada Public Health, in the Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Program. She oversees her agency’s efforts to address preventable risk factors associated with developing chronic diseases including tobacco use and exposure, as well addressing the topics of injury prevention and behavioral health that are prevalent in Washoe County. She has worked in the field of public health for over 17 years, has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences, and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Educational Psychology. She also obtained a post-graduate Certificate in Performance Improvement in Public Health and is currently working on a Nutrition Coaching Certification. As a newer HSN Board member, Nicole looks forward to learning from the other members on the Board as well as identifying and initiating ways for HSN to share vital information with local governing boards on topics related to human services.
